Hullo,

I’m swooping in today like a giant illustration bird 🦅 with

5 of the best things that got me enough illustration work so that I could quit my nanny job

(and beyond! But retiring from nanny-life was my initial goal 🙃😆).

  1. ✏️ Sharing my work consistently, even when I felt like hiding or curling up in a ball.
(Scheduling posts helps with this! And sharing doesn’t always have to happen on social media - see #3.)

  2. ✏️Switching to value-based pricing, rather than hours-for-£s

  3. ✏️Improving my website so people find me when they need me.

  4. ✏️Learning, learning learning. Practicing and learning all the time - not just via online courses but via friends, business pals, and other illustrators/creatives. #CommunityOverCompetition

  5. ✏️Tracking my income 💰 and setting goals for the pennies.

Phewwww.

Getting more illustration work, upping yer business game and all the goodness that comes from being your own creative boss, IS NOT just a special thing for “lucky” people, or people who went to Art School, or people with a secret pile of money.

Illustration can be (and should be) a well paid, legit career. Just cos it’s fun, doesn’t mean it isn’t well paid.

keep your eyes peeled for @thegoodshipillustration updates (shiny new courses!!) in the next weeks/months...

We have v excitin’ plans!
