[waits ‘til you’ve noticed our glorious scribbles on the above video…]
NIFTY, right?
Now… imagine the above video without our animated words and pictures over the top of it. Would you still pay the same amount of attention? Would you feel the same way about the information? Would your energy levels be the same?
Bet your answer starts with an N and finishes with an O!
You don’t need to be a football pro to illustrate a football-themed (or anything-themed) event in our biz. You just need to notice how having some extra supportive content on the screen can help your message sing and dance a bit more. It makes a certain part of your brain feel more wiggly and alert, and more invested in what’s happening - even if you don’t know that’s what your brain is doing!
That’s exactly what we did for the Subway Women's League Cup’s Green Football Weekend here - a lovely client whose mission ties in with our own personal values here at Illustrated Live. It was an exciting thing to be a small part of this project to raise climate awareness. Let’s find out a wee bit more, shall we?
Kicking off with Katie - how did the process pan out?
Let’s hear a bit more from our lovely Illustrated Live founder, Katie Chappell, about how she approached this job and exactly what was involved.
1. Kicking off with Katie – how did the process pan out?
This project was a total dream. The Subway Women's League Cup team got in touch with a brilliant brief - animation, sustainability, and the Lionesses?! Yes please. We kicked things off with a creative call, then worked closely with their marketing team to storyboard, illustrate, and animate everything in time for matchday.
2. What made this particular job unique for you?
We don’t take on many animation projects since we focus on live illustration, but every now and then, a brilliant one lands in our inbox. This project ticked every box. An eco-friendly message, an exciting event, and a chance to do something a bit playful and new with our visuals.
3. What did Subway Women's League Cup hope to achieve, and how do you think Illustrated Live achieved it for them?
They wanted to raise awareness about sustainability in football, in a way that felt fun and easy to engage with, not preachy. (I hope) we brought that to life with joyful characters, vibrant scenes, and a pacey animation that held attention both on social media - in front of over 2 million social media followers(!!) - and on the big screen in the stadium.
4. What was the most enjoyable or surprising thing about this job?
While we didn’t get to see our work on the actual stadium screen, it was still exciting to know it was happening on the day! And the feedback from fans and the client was amazing. It sparked real conversations about sustainability in football, which was exactly the goal.
5. What was the process of creating this piece, and how long did it take?
From concept to final animation, it took around 3 weeks. That included storyboarding, client sign-off, illustrations, and animating. We kept everything moving with regular check-ins and quick feedback.
6. What would you say to a potential client who is looking for a similar piece of content?
If you’ve got a big message and want to make it feel fun, clear, and shareable, THIS is the kind of project we love. We’ll help you shape the idea, keep the process smooth, and make sure the final result actually lands with your audience.
So! Does adding a touch of animation to your next piece of work sound like it might be just the ticket for giving your message a bit more oomph?
The possibilities are endless, so whether you’re planning a campaign, hosting an event, running some training or just want to do something a bit more special for your organisation and your audience, we’re here to help!
