Behind the Scenes at Illustrated Live: Meet Our Live Illustration Team

5 Questions with… Doti!

Did you know there’s a small (but perfectly formed) team of us here at Illustrated Live?!

Yep. We’re a very small but mighty group of remote live illustrators, and as of right now, we’re giving you a peep into the people behind the work!

This month, we spoke to Doti, our remote live illustrator who is based in Hungary to get the scoop on all things virtual scribing from her perspective! Let’s get into it…

1. What made you decide to become a live event illustrator? / How did you discover live event illustration?

I was one of the lucky ones! I was participating in a Training of Trainers course, focusing on working with young people and non-formal education, when one of the most amazing trainers I know, Marcus Vrecer, approached me.

He told me that I "think in pictures" and asked if I’d be interested in trying live illustration. Then, he invited me to his next training session. Thanks to his constructive feedback, I learned a great deal in the process. Back then, I had no idea how much I was going to love it. :)

2. Tell us something you have learned about the benefits of live illustration since you became a live scribe.

I’ve learned just how much people get bored at conferences when there’s no live illustrator!

I’ve received so much feedback along the lines of, “This was the first time I fully paid attention to a conference because you helped me stay engaged, even during the dull moments.” Or, “Every time I started to lose focus, I just looked at your work, and it pulled me back in.”

I've heard so many similar comments, and it really proves how powerful live illustration can be. I think event organizers often forget how dreadfully exhausting it can be to sit in one place for 6–8 hours a day. Live illustration helps break that monotony, keeping audiences engaged and making the experience more dynamic and enjoyable.

3. What do you believe sets visual learning apart from other learning styles?

Regardless of your preferred learning style, people receive at least 80% of all information visually, with only 10% coming from hearing and the remaining 10% distributed between smell, touch, and taste. Because of this, visual learning makes information easier to process, faster to understand, and more engaging. It’s simply a more efficient way for the brain to absorb knowledge.

4. Why do you think clients should choose live illustration for their next event?

BECAUSE WE ROCK.

Seriously, the team here at Illustrated Live is absolutely incredible. Katie has handpicked some of the most extraordinary, talented, and wonderful artists to be part of Illustrated Live. Katie is brilliant, and Elise* is amazing as well. The structure, experience, and professionalism are all there, making Illustrated Live the full package.

*Note: behind the scenes, we have a lovely team. If you get in touch you might be lucky enough to meet Elise, Emma, Frances or Cameron.

5. How would you describe live illustration in one word or one sentence?

The cherry on top!
