Voices and faces: How characters and quotes help live event illustration pop and your messages stick

Throwback to a live illustration we did last year (before changing our name to Illustrated Live!), specifically using characters and quotes to drive messages home to the audience

Events are full of brilliant one-liners, but many of them can get lost in the noise and might make you scratch your head days later.

“Oh maaan, what was THAT THING that made my brain go ‘Oooooooh’ the other day?”

Live illustration acts like a magical highlighter pen, plucking out the most important phrases and giving them a permanent stage. And quite often, we’ll breathe life into your work with characters and quotes just like the image pictured above!

This approach is ideal for round tables, panel discussions and guest speakers whose speeches need that extra special spotlight.

Why is this detail so important?

  • Shareability!
A sharp quote, beautifully illustrated, is prime content for your social media pages. It’s also gold internally. Got digital screens around your office? Pop your live illustrations on ‘em to keep the messages fresh!

  • They humanise the speaker
Seeing your words pop up in pictures makes you feel seen and valued. It puts just the right amount of sparkle on any guest speakers so that the essence of what they’re saying is captured along with the sentiment attached.

  • They keep the message focused.
When the big ideas are distilled into short quotes, audiences leave remembering the key points in a human way.

Faces in spaces: A human touch in tech-heavy events

Characters aren’t just cute drawings — they’re shortcuts to empathy and boosters of content engagement.

We’re living in a time where convenience drives sooo many of our decisions, even in the workplace! It’s a gift, but it comes with its setbacks. The gift of working remotely is unmatched for many, and the ability to host a work event in a hybrid style where people can dial in rather than making long and expensive journeys frees up so much time, resource and stress. But what about the human element? And what about the people who can’t dial in live for whatever reason?

The idiosyncrasies are missed - those moments-between-moments where you notice a smile or a tone shift…

You may forget about those things in a few days. And you may never see them if you couldn’t make it on the day and are relying on a meeting recording or written recap to get you back up to speed.

Buuut *drumroll*... If you have a piece of live illustration as your event summary, it’s all there on the page! Information meets personality with the ideal balance. You see the face of such-and-such drawn in front of you with a quote. And perhaps, juuust perhaps, you’ll think “Oooh, yeah I remember that!” or “Oooh, let me revisit that!” or “Oooh, that seems curious, let me start a conversation about that!”

See how this live illustration uses characters to highlight who the key speakers are?

And notice how this one uses characters and real quotes to capture the feelings and sentiments behind this event celebrating pride!

Make your events more visual!

Giving a visual voice to information at an event is vital if you want people to connect with it on a more meaningful level.

Not only will the message of the event resonate, but the relevance of the message to the people in the room hits a bit closer to home, and helps your audience to do something with the information afterwards.

Ever considered how small visual details like this can improve the way your organisation communicates to its audience? If it tickles your curious-buds then feel free to drop us a line to find out more. Perhaps we can slink into your next event to bring some voices and faces to life for you!
