Case Study: Graphic recording for an online event about food poverty

Last year I was asked to live illustrate for an online event run by Sustain

Sustain is an organisation that campaigns for a healthy and sustainable food system, which is publicly accountable and socially and environmentally responsible.

I love it when clients repurpose their illustrations and Sustain has done just that!

In this blog post, they outline the 10 Key Lessons for Local Action on Food Poverty.

Sustain hired me to graphic record their Food Power series of online events.

sustain’s GOALS

Find a creative way to capture an online event that was NOT boring, and would appeal to their audience. They wanted the information to be accessible and keep everybody interested and engaged.

online event needs

Useful, clear images that would be useful after the event. Being able to sum up an entire event in one image, that was shareable online afterwards. Making the most of the live illustrations, by having them BIG where everybody could see them during discussions.

How graphic recording helped!

We scribed at the Food Power conference in real-time. Their online attendees could see the screen nice and clearly, and it kept everybody interested and keen to contribute.

After the event, Sustain received their illustrations, as well as timelapse animation videos of the drawings taking shape.

Sustain has gone on to repurpose their illustrations in a blog post, and the images were sent out in the ‘thanks for coming’ email that went out to attendees afterwards.
