We’re only illustrating at ONLINE events right now… here’s why
5 reasons why it’s better for you if your live illustrator stays home
The world has opened up again - yay! But not everything needs to go back to normal - I’m embracing one of the many great things to have come out of my time in lockdown - online events.
Don’t worry I haven’t become a recluse, I’m still very much up for meeting new and interesting people but last year when we stayed at home I scribed over 500 hours of events for a diverse list of clients from the United Nations to ITV, all 100% online - and it got me thinking…
Does the graphic recorder need to be in the room to capture all the magic that happens?
My conclusion was no - here are 5 reasons why my team and I are not doing in-person events anymore, and why you should consider moving your events online (or at least hybrid) too.
1. Virtual Scribing saves the planet
What better reason is there? Less travel = healthy earth. It’s better for everyone to stay at home and attend events virtually.
If you're suffering from zoom fatigue - don’t despair! You don't need to hold your event 100% online. Why not consider a hybrid event? You can find out more about those here.
2. Everyone’s invited when there’s graphic recording goin’ on
The maths is simple - the more accessible you make your event, the more people will attend.
Holding your event online opens it up to way more people who ordinarily might find it difficult to attend - those travelling from rural areas, with chronic health issues, additional needs, different learning styles.
Not only can moving your event online improve accessibility it can also help you to avoid last-minute cancellations and disappointment. A virtual event can always go ahead no matter what the new variant or rule change is.
3. Working remotely saves time and money
We all know that the cost of living is going up this year, by holding your event virtually and having zero travel expenses - it’s going to make it even more appealing to attendees. Add to that no travel delays or inconveniences and it makes for a recipe for success.
Also, when you hire me to scribe your event I can send you the illustrations immediately! You can reveal them during the event. And because they’re already digital, there’s no waiting (and no faff trying to digitise a big long scroll of paper or a giant whiteboard drawing).
4. It’s personal
A virtual event doesn't have to feel impersonal - there are so many ways to make your event interactive and relevant to your business/project. Learn about the latest trends for virtual events here.
When you hire me to make your event more interactive, we’ll still meet face to face via zoom and have a tech rehearsal/run-through before your event to make sure all looks exactly how you’d like it. Also, I’m always on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Rest assured that your illustrations will have just as much impact - you don’t need me in the room when the internet is so good! You can project the illustrations onto a wall or a big screen and get illustrations to share and repurpose after the event is over, making it so much easier to share after the event = brilliant for your blog posts, social media, email newsletter, internal comms, adverts - some clients have turned their illustrations into pin badges, wall decals for the office, leaflets, posters and more.
5. AND the best bit…
You get to wear what you like on your feet! Slippers, flip flops, clogs, nothing at all - come as you are.
So why not join me in my staying-at-home-revolution? Give it a go, save the planet, money, and time, let more people come along and have more fun. What’s not to love?
